Mastering the Art of Bisque: A Golf Game of Strategy and Precision

Have you ever played a match where you're only getting a few shots on the hardest holes—the ones that always seem to result in double bogeys—rendering those extra strokes practically useless? Then, just when you think you’re making a comeback, you drain a birdie or par on a hole where you don’t even get a shot, making that effort feel equally pointless? Frustrating stuff. We’ve been there.

Well, let us introduce you to a game that changes the way you play: Bisque. This match-play format lets you take control of your strokes, adding a layer of strategy that can tip the scales in your favor.

The Story Behind Bisque Golf

When creating our brand, we wanted a name that referenced golf in a unique way while still being edgy and memorable. Bisque was the perfect fit. Inspired by this strategic match-play format, our name reflects the idea of taking control, making smart decisions, and playing the game on your own terms. Just like in Bisque, where golfers allocate their own strokes, Bisque Golf is about choosing your own path—whether through exclusive apparel, sneakers, or golf bags that set you apart on and off the course.

How to Play Bisque

Number of Players: Bisque is a match-play format best suited for two or four players.

Best For: Players who struggle on specific holes, strategic thinkers, and those who enjoy an extra challenge.

Game Setup: In a standard match, a player with a 7 handicap would typically give shots to a player with a 12 handicap. Normally, the higher-handicap player would get five strokes on the hardest holes. But Bisque introduces a compelling twist: instead of strokes being automatically assigned to the most challenging holes, players can choose when to use their strokes—before teeing off on any given hole.

For example, let’s say Player A is a 7-handicap and Player B is a 12-handicap. In Bisque, Player A still receives seven shots, while Player B gets all 12. However, they must decide before hitting each tee shot whether to use one of their strokes on that hole. This means that Player A might elect to use a stroke on an already tough hole to secure an even bigger advantage, while Player B could strategically deploy a stroke on a typically easier hole, like a par 3, to make a game-changing 3-for-2 score.

Key Rules to Remember

  1. Choose Your Shots Wisely: Players must declare their use of a stroke before teeing off on a hole.

  2. One Stroke Per Hole: No doubling up—players can only use one stroke per hole, making smart distribution essential.

Why Play Bisque?

Bisque adds a psychological edge to match play, forcing players to think strategically rather than simply accepting their strokes where they fall. It levels the playing field in a fresh, engaging way that rewards decision-making as much as skill.

Bisque Variations

While Bisque itself is straightforward, its concept can be integrated into other match formats. For instance, if a standard match ends on the 16th hole, players looking for extra excitement might propose a two-hole playoff. If one player hesitates due to an unfavorable stroke distribution, the other could offer a bisque stroke as an incentive, adding another layer of negotiation and intrigue to the game.

Whether you’re a seasoned golfer looking for a fresh challenge or someone who enjoys match-play mind games, Bisque is the perfect way to mix up your next round. Try it out and see how calling your own shots—literally—can change the way you play.

Play smart. Play strategic. Play Bisque.
