Amsterdam, the Capital of Golf

As Bisque founders and native Amsterdammers, we’re not only fans of our cosmopolitan hometown, but also love to explore its continuously changing urban fabric. This craving to explore, whether it’s for downtime or work-related, regularly takes us on trips abroad. And while we’re at it, we never ever pass the opportunity to play the often very sunny local greens.

Who can blame us? That said, golf matters have evolved dramatically on home turf these past few years, and we’ve swung and putted our hearts out at many an alluring golf course in and around the Dutch capital. Let’s check out some of our close-to-home stomping grounds, shall we?The Amsterdamse Golf Club was founded in 1934 and boasts a 148-acre golf course with 18 holes. Designed by Belgian golf course architect Paul Rolin, the venue is also well-equipped, featuring ample practice facilities and a lively club house. Interestingly, the club’s former location, now operates under the moniker Amsterdam Old Course. Situated on the eastern urban fringes, this is indeed the very cradle of the city’s golf history, featuring nine holes set across grounds designed by Colt, Allison & Morrison, a legendary British golf course architecture practice.

A bit further to the southeast, the well-kept greens of De Hoge Dijk are beckoning. A full-fledged golf haven, it features no less than 27 holes, a golf academy, practice facilities, and last but not least, a golf club for jolly post-match banter. Are you a golf-playing art aficionado? If so, please take note: the venue also forms the backdrop for a rotation of visual art exhibitions, and traditionally, the sculptures on display are playfully scattered across the greens. Last but not least, you could bump into us at The International, an 18-hole golf course conveniently wedged in between Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport. The beautifully landscaped grounds, designed by top golfer Ian Woosnam and design practice Mastergolf International, come with a stellar range of facilities, such as a driving range, golf school, restaurant and even a fitness club. See you on the greens.
